If you’re planning to rent from Todd Village please read my warning first and consider your options carefully before jumping into a year- long lease with them. I have moved out last month and i’m so relieved that my hellish experience is finally over. Let me start from the beginning….
Prior to moving in I came to Todd Village looking for a good place to live; I ve asked questions and they replied with their perfectly practiced answers. And it’s my fault for believing in them. Despite being in my late 30′s I d still believe in the goodness of people, boy was i wrong!
For those who DON’T want to read my super long review I have summarized and listed the top 4 reasons why Todd Village is a nightmare:
1) They lie during the walk through inspection and cheat you out of your MONEY.
2) The apartments are very old and interior walls/ceilings are lined with MOLD.
3) The place is always loud 24hrs– not a good place for CHILDREN or SLEEPING.
4) The environment is filled with lots and lots of cursing teenage POTHEADS.
Before I moved out of previous apartment in Portland I came to todd village and they showed me a decent 2 bedroom that’s entirely different from what I got in the end. They tricked me. Switch and bait, on the day of my move in when I had a U-hual truck filled with furniture they showed me what i was really getting. During my first walk through of my actual apartment I ve noticed black marks all over the walls and ceiling, the cabinets and pantries are very old and cannot store food unless you want your food to smell/taste like dirty socks, the oven and fridge is around my age (and they break down frequently). The bathroom floor tiles were peeling and unsafe for a child to walk on. The kitchen faucet wouldn’t stop leaking water and the apartment smell like mildew. I asked the leasing agent to make a note about these problems and instead of writing them down on the walk through inspection sheet he told me that those problems don’t count. At that point I wanted to move back to my old place but it was too late. Two months later a friend pointed out that the black marks on the walls and ceilings are actually mold. Horrified by the realization that I ve been practically living in mold I went straight to fred meyers and bought all the mold killing products I could find.
I’m never late on rent, not even once, and i’m always polite and nice to my neighbors. Yet i have never truly felt comfortable leaving windows open. Sometimes my 5 year old gets scared and refuses to play outside. There are always groups of teenagers hanging around being obnoxiously loud, smoking weed, littering beer cans, cigarette butts, and trash everywhere from 3pm-9pm daily. The teens are not neighbors nor are they kids of my neighbors, in fact they don’t even live at Todd Village. I brought this to the attention of the manager who told he can’t do anything about it because Todd Village is not obligated to provide any form of security to its tenants. I was tired of picking up trash, so i approached the teens with a gentle attitude while they were smoking weed right in front of my apartment. I asked them if they would consider smoking at the other side of the todd village apartments rather than in front of mine for the sake of my child. I gave them $30 as an incentive. A week later all 4 of my tires were slashed.
Besides the potheads, the overall environment is noisy too. It’s always loud, you can never sleep without ear plugs and police cars are always going off in the middle night due to trouble in the area. There are a lot of homeless people walking around. After a year living here, i’m still not use to seeing them searching through my trash.
And finally after my nightmare lease was over i moved out, but my ordeal hasn’t ended yet. It was just the beginning. Remember the pre-existing mold that the leasing agent refused to write down, will now they are blaming me for causing that mold ($200 fee), peeling floor tiles ($100), and they even charged me for the old fridge that had stopped working after 3 months of me moving me in ($500). They took my entire deposit, and sent me an additional bill that i have now forwarded to my lawyer.
The reason why I wrote this lengthy review is because i don’t anyone else to go through what i went through just because they didn’t do their research. Todd Village had been the worst place i have ever lived, and i sincerely hope they change their deceitful ways one day. Until then, you been warned, stay away from this nightmare.
